The Chequamegon School District IT Department was a recipient of a 2021 Technology for Educational ACHievement Grant (TEACH) by the Wisconsin Department of Administration.
Eligible rural school districts and libraries compete annually for a portion of funds meant to increase availability and access to technology among rural students and library patrons. As described by D.O.A. Secretary Joel Brennan, "These infrastructure grants will help rural communities improve educational accessibility for their residents, which ultimately benefits our entire state.” The demand for these coveted grants exceeded the available funds, this year. 141 school districts and libraries shared almost $3 million in funds, while $3.9 million in requests came in from 160 eligible schools and 15 eligible libraries. The IT Department used a portion of the grant funds to invest in portable cellular hotspot units, called MiFis, to provide temporary high-speed broadband access to eligible families-in-need. The remaining money is earmarked towards future upgrades to networking infrastructure on CSD campuses as current resources age and the needs of the District change. #CSDSoar
