The Chequamegon Community

What defines the Chequamegon Community? There are so many enriching aspects to what make Chequamegon what it is that it cannot be limited to just one element.  The people, the environment, and the economy all contribute to the unique character of our area and define us as a locality.

Hardworking, Generous, Friendly: That characterizes the people of the Northwoods. We not only know each other, but we look out for each other. People gather for Friday Night Fish Fries, meet up at the Lions dog park, they help each other out after storms, share produce from their gardens and wood from their wood piles, and most importantly celebrate with each other. From the American Legion to one of the many restaurants or pubs, we simply enjoy being together.

The beautiful Chequamegon National Forest, the serene and picturesque Turtle-Flambeau Flowage, challenging hiking trails, the vast ATV/UTV and snowmobile trail systems, covered bridges, silent sports–these are only some of the spectacular attributes of the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Happiness comes in many forms: the rushing waterfalls and adventures of kayaking over the springtime rapids; the shouts of joy when that prized fish is reeled in; the music and laughter heard at our many festivals; the awe-inspiring sunsets of a mild summer night; the red fruits of our cranberry marshes, the opportunities to hunt for birds and trophy bucks, and the spectacular colors of a crisp autumn day; the fresh winter snows and the beauty of a candlelit ski or snowshoe event bring peace to the mind and soul. “Up North” is a great place to vacation, but an even better place to call home.

The Northwoods is primarily home to industries that are based on our natural resources: logging, timber, US Forestry, Department of Natural Resources, the famous St. Croix fishing rod factory, fishing guides, hunting guides, and Silly Goose Silent Sports. There are a wide variety of resorts found along our lakes and rivers, in addition to hotels in town. We are also home to Weather Shield Windows, Park Falls Hardwoods,  Park Falls Hardware, Park Falls Builders, and numerous bars and restaurants. We have a wonderful public library that hosts numerous community events, as well as a variety of exercise/yoga classes. We are fortunate to have Marshfield Hospital and Northlakes Community Clinic, and three dental clinics in Park Falls;  there are also opportunities for higher education closeby: NorthCentral Technical college just south of us in Phillips, and Northland College just north of us in Ashland.
